Student Tracking Platform

Updated: Dec 26, 2024

Project Overview: This project involved designing a student tracking platform for students aged 2-9 years old as part of a job application. The goal was to create a user-friendly interface for teachers and parents to track student progress across various behavioral and skill attributes. The time allotted for this project was 3 hours.

Brief I was given is showed below:

Problem Statement: The brief lacked clarity and an intuitive design, making it difficult for teachers and parents to monitor student progress. The goal was to create a streamlined and visually appealing platform where users could easily navigate through student data and make informed decisions about the child's development.

Research & Insights: Key pain points included:

  • Confusing data display, making it difficult to compare students’ skillsets.

  • A complex layout that overwhelmed users.

  • Inadequate visual hierarchy for data, making important information hard to find.

Design Process:

  1. Wireframes & Prototyping: Initial sketches and wireframes were developed to simplify the layout. The goal was to reduce the cognitive load by prioritizing the most essential data points while ensuring flexibility for users to dive into more granular details.

  2. UI Design: The design focused on readability and user engagement, using visual elements like charts and clean typography. Colors were assigned strategically to highlight different sections of the dashboard, allowing users to quickly differentiate between categories like skills, progress, and control measures.

  3. Interaction Improvements:

    • A filter system was introduced to allow users to sort students by class or behavior type.

    • The dashboard was revamped to make critical information, like behavioral progress and emotional traits, easily accessible.

    • Visual data representations (such as skill wheels) were added to provide a clear, visual comparison of student performance across various metrics.

The new design introduced a well-organized interface, allowing users to easily track and compare student progress with minimal effort.

Outcome: The redesigned platform solved the usability issues by providing a clear, engaging, and functional interface. The new layout improved overall user satisfaction, enabling teachers and parents to track progress more effectively.
